Xiaomi Takes a Key Step Forward in the Home Appliance Industry
On October 28, Lei Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, appeared in Wuhan to officially announce the commencement of operations at Xiaomi’s Smart Home Appliance Factory in Optics Valley. This marks Xiaomi’s third large-scale smart factory, following its smartphone factory and automobile factory.
Lei Jun stated on Weibo that the official launch of the smart home appliance factory represents another major leap for Xiaomi in the field of intelligent manufacturing. The factory is capable of producing one high-end air conditioner every 6.5 seconds, with 100% AI-powered visual inspection of key components, as well as intelligent control of manufacturing equipment. Both its efficiency and quality have reached top-tier industry standards.
Major home appliances have now become Xiaomi’s new growth engine. In the second quarter of 2025, revenue from Xiaomi’s smart home appliance business hit a record high with a year-on-year increase of 66.2%. Among them, Xiaomi’s air conditioner shipments exceeded 5.4 million units—a historic high—with year-on-year growth of over 60%. Refrigerator shipments surpassed 790,000 units, up more than 25%, while washing machine shipments exceeded 600,000 units, growing more than 45% year-on-year.
While domestic sales continue to surge, Xiaomi is also actively expanding into overseas home appliance markets. During the company’s mid-year earnings call for Q2 2025, Xiaomi revealed that 2025 marks the “first year of going global” for its major home appliances. In the first half of 2025, Xiaomi completed air conditioner exports to Southeast Asia. On September 25, Shan Lianyu, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Major Home Appliances Division, announced on social media that Xiaomi’s home appliance lineup—including air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines—has officially entered the European market.
